it looks like my grandmother's old ringer washer

The next (last?) round of parts I need for beetle engine assembly arrived last week just before I drove up to Illinois. One of the parts that arrived from VW parts was a cylinder head nut and washer set.

I had read before that VW cylinder heads are held on by nuts plus "special thick" washers. I read on thesamba.com that this is to spread the load on the Aluminum heads, to avoid deforming them and having the relax and cause the heads to loosen. This is why I wanted to make sure that I had a proper set.

Here's the washers I'm working with now. The two washers on the left are indicative of the washers that came off the engine when I dis-assembled it last fall. It was a mix of 2mm and 2.7mm washers. The washer on the right is a one of the thick washers I got in the kit; it's 4mm thick.

Time to start assembly.
